Did You Know The Size Of Universe?
Light year covers a distance of 2 lakh kilometre in one second. So the distance travelled by the light in 1 year is measured in its light years. It is not possible to measure such a long distance in kilometres, therefore it is measured in light years. American scientist Harlow Shapley said that the milky way is about 3 million light years wide, but Haber used to say that it is not that big. He said that there are many Galaxies like this Galaxy in the universe, only by measuring the distance, we can know the exact shape of the universe.
For this, scientists have found some ways like cosmic distance ladder (measuring the distance from planets stars with the help of radio waves), star radiance scale. This process is called redshift as something that's away from us and become oblique from our eyes. Because the light emanating from any star is lost around. The difference in its colour begins to be felt, such bright stars are considered as miletones and their distance is estimated.
